Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster, came out around the same date as Godzilla King of the Monsters. The film is about an island with the same name as the island itself, where a monster lives.


Due to the film's low budget (equivalent (original blog) to a large family meal), the filmmakers decided to focus only on a small number of people and to shoot most of the scenes involving the cast's A listers during lunch. The Asylum is not a kaiju film.
